“Temples of the Holy Spirit”
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”
A few months ago I had the privilege of ministering in Israel and Palestine. I was very touched by God while there. Seeing where Jesus walked and ministered was amazing. But being able to do that with Him while there was even more incredible. On one particular day, after visiting the temple area, God began to speak to me about true worship and what it looks like.
When Jesus walked into the temple area in Jerusalem and saw people buying and selling, he began to overturn their tables and he said to them, ” My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of thieves.” Jesus knew God wanted the temple kept pure and holy- a place of worship and prayer.
Now, after the victory of Jesus on the cross, He says that as individuals, we are temples of the Holy Spirit. He wants His temples full of purity and worship. When we allow God to overturn things in us to make them upright, this is like an offering of worship that rises up as incense before Him. If we allow sin and corruption into our lives, we are trashing His temple. We need to allow Him to overturn those things in our lives. We need to ask Him to purify us and we need to daily turn from our sin and worship Him with our lives. If our temple is pure and full of the Holy Spirit, then our worship will be pure. However, if our worship isn’t pure, then God will cast it away. We can’t fool Him by singing songs and giving lip service. Our words mean nothing to Him unless they’re carried by the pure worship of our lives, souls, hearts, and spirits. He wants the incense of the sacrifice of our lives. (Romans 12:1).
Living as a pure temple of the Holy Spirit is the most exciting and rewarding way to live. Sacrifice isn’t always easy, but the Creator of all that is good, the Author of love and power is an AWESOME God and He lives inside of you in power. Allow Him to do His work in you, overturning all in you that shouldn’t be, filling you with more of His Holy Spirit, and using you for incredible purposes!
