Moving on to a new chapter in life…

After almost 4 wonderful years as the worship leader of La Jolla Christian Fellowship, I felt God leading me to step down from my position. Last Sunday was the conclusion of a wonderful chapter in my life. When I reflect on all that God has done, I’m so grateful. Not only have I deepened and grown, so has the church. When I was originally hired and came to the church I was in a bit of culture shock in the worship department. I came from a church where worship was a huge and  passionate part of every service and when I took this job I was told that I had 12 minutes to lead. Over the years, though, the worship has grown to become a huge focus of the church, and rightly so. Jesus is so deserving of all of our praises. I learned to bridge a gap between generations, different theologies, and different worship styles- from hymn books to dancing and waving flags, we found a way to be a family and to lovingly compromise that all people in the church body would be able to worship Him in spirit and in truth, and with their own expressions. God looks at the heart, not at what the world looks at. I will miss my church family, but they will be my family forever. I look on to the future for all of us with peace and excitement, knowing that as in Jeremiah’s words- “He alone knows the plans He has for us. Plans to prosper us and not to harm us. Plans to give us a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
